Victims' Rights Enforcement - An Emerging Area of Law
Victims' rights enforcement is an exciting and emerging area of law, particularly rights enforcement in criminal cases. Victims and survivors are frequently unaware that they have enforceable constitutional rights and that the state does not represent them in criminal proceedings against the offender. Providing victims and survivors legal guidance during their journey through the court system is a huge gift.
SCVAN serves hundreds of victims annually through free consultations, referrals, and direct representation in civil and criminal courts. Victims and survivors desperately need representation, and your time and efforts are valuable. We have cases that cover many legal areas and experience levels.

College and law students gain valuable experience with internships and externships at SCVAN. They draft legal documents, assist on cases, research critical legal issues, collaborate on publications, and in some instances, advocate on behalf of victims in the courtroom. Videoconferencing allows students who are not located near one of our offices to join SCVAN attorneys and clients for consultations and meetings. Volunteering is a great way to earn pro bono hours and gain hands on experience in a legal practice within the world of victims’ rights.
We seek volunteers to help us lift up survivors of violence across the state. Volunteering is a great way to give back and support some of the most vulnerable members of our community. We host multiple events a year and are always in need of volunteers. Whether you are retired military or enlisted and trying to gain community service hours, your efforts will make a positive impact on our community.
SCVAN offers multiple volunteer opportunities for members of the community to support victims and survivors. Volunteers can work in one of our 2 offices (Spartanburg or Columbia) or provide support remotely from anywhere in the state. Whether you are interested in learning more about victims’ rights enforcement or want to support our mission through working at one of our events, such as our Victims' Rights Week Conference or annual 5k run, we need your help. Vulnerable members of our community will directly benefit from the assistance you provide.
We are on the lookout for volunteers who are tech-savvy and have an interest in websites and social media. We continuously update this website and its resources and our social media accounts. If you are interested lending your skills, let us know!
